Harpeth Academy Historical Marker

On Hillsboro Road in Franklin

Joe Campbell Marker at Chickamauga

 

  

Mike Hoover, Bart Boaz, and Daniel Beard at the marker for Color Bearer Joe Campbell, who was killed at this spot on Sept. 19, 1863 at Chickamauga.  Campbell served in Company C 1st TN and was born and raised in Franklin, TN.  He was working at the cannon factory in Nashville when the war broke out.  He was shot in the head trying to rally the regiment waving the flag from a top a stump.

Cook/Servant Ralph Ledbetter

Originally body servant to Captain Ledbetter of Company K, apparently attached himself to a member of Company D when Ledbetter was killed at Franklin in 1864.
