William R. Hughes
DOB:  1837 DOD:  October 8, 1862 Age at Enlistment: 24 Date of Enlistment:  May 9, 1861 Place of Enlistment:  Franklin, TN Rank at Enlistment:  Private Rank at Discharge:  5th Sergeant Casualty:  Killed at the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862 Comments:  William was born near Leiper’s Fork, TN and first appears on the census residing there with his family in 1850.  By the 1860 Census his family has moved to District 1 of Williamson County (Fairview area).  The 1860 Census does not list an occupation for him, so it is assumed he just worked on his father’s farm.  His older brother, Sydney, was a Lieutenant in Col. Starne’s 3rd TN Cavalry.  William appears as present on every roster for the Company until his death at the Battle of Perryville.  He was promoted to 5th Sergeant at the reorganization on April 30, 1862.
