William B. Campbell
DOB:  About 1844 DOD:  October 17, 1862 Age at Enlistment: 17 Date of Enlistment:  May 9, 1861 Place of Enlistment:  Franklin, TN Rank at Enlistment:  Private Rank at Discharge:  3rd Corporal Casualty:  Mortally wounded at Perryville on October 8, 1862, died from wounds on October 17, 1862. Comments:  William was born in Tennessee and appears in the 1850 census as being born about 1844, but has not turned up in the 1860 Census so far.  William enlisted in the company at its formation in 1861.  He is about the right age to have been a Harpeth Academy student, but his family had run Harpeth Academy during the 1850’s and were forced out by the “Know Nothing” political party.  The Campbells started another school in Williamson County so he was probably a pupil there.  At the company’s reorganization on April 30, 1862, William was promoted to 3rd Corporal.  He served in that capacity until he was mortally wounded at Perryville, KY on October 8, 1862 by a wound in the lungs.  He lingered a little over a week before succumbing to his wounds on October 17, 1862.
