Levi Jackson Bailey
DOB:  October 13, 1837 DOD:  December 21, 1915 Age at Enlistment: 23 Date of Enlistment:  July 18, 1861 Place of Enlistment:  Haynesville, TN Rank at Enlistment:  Private Rank at Discharge:  Private Casualty:  None Comments:  Levi was born in Yancey County, North Carolina.  He enlisted in Company D while the unit was stopped to join up with the 7th and 14th Tennessee Infantry Regiments in East Tennessee.  It appears that Levi and his brother John left North Carolina to enlist in Tennessee.  He transferred to the 5th North Carolina Cavalry Company A on November 1, 1862 where he was eventually captured on September 22, 1863 and sent to Point Lookout.  Prison records show he caught Typhoid Fever in November 1863.  There is no record of his release from Prison.  After the war he married Mary Polly Briggs and had two children.  He was a Reverend and Mason.  He died on December 21, 1915 of liver and intestinal problems and buried in Gabriel’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Mars Hill, NC.
